Where to Eat - Lucy's of Ambleside

« Go Back

At the end of August 1996 Lucy’s on a Plate opened.  nitially to compliment the shop as a Tearoom, (we started with a domestic cooker and a kettle – by the end of the first week we could afford another kettle!) however, it quickly evolved into being so much more, changing the Daily Specials twice a day in order to accommodate daytime and evening custom (the daytime menu is very eclectic and embraces a whole range of ‘styles’ at affordable prices using fresh ingredients all put together in our own kitchens).  The concept for Lucy’s was and still is, to create somewhere that is both relaxing, informal and slightly different...

A place that is welcoming for everyone – families, couples, friends and individuals, to pass the time chatting, eating, drinking and reading the papers and playing games, whilst having no restriction on what you have or when (Occasionally on the busier days we restrict the menu for a short while purely to give the kitchen a breather! – but always at a time when Lucy Four is open as well, so there’s no escape!!).

The lovely walled courtyard at the back is a real haven in fine weather especially as we have outdoor heaters for when the evenings get a little chillier! The Conservatory is a very welcome new addition and seats an additional thirty plus guests.

Lucy’s Bite on the Side, our upstairs room provides the perfect place for parties, hen nights, special occasions and family gatherings, seating up to 16 people on one table – maximum 24 on two.

It looks lovely set up with candles, balloons and glasses etc. and is so private you could be in your own home – but without the aggravation! It is also a beautiful room for normal dining and is used extensively for both, so it is always advisable to book as early as you can for that. Whilst downstairs we are always happy to accommodate larger parties, weddings, etc., of up to 60 people – any excuse and we’ll make a party out of it. The ‘Ginnel’ at the side of the café is safe for anyone wishing to ‘park’ a much loved bike out of harm's way – so you can relax!

We strongly advise that you book in the evening (at any time of the year) as it does get rather busy and whilst we don’t double book tables – a lot of ‘table juggling’ goes on. When you book you will be asked a series of questions, such as a contact number/place as well as whether it is a special occasion – this is because we aim to make your time with us a memorable one. So the more information we glean the better!
